“The death toll in the capital has risen to two,” city official Tymur Tkachenko said on Telegram, as emergency crews responded to the aftermath of drone attacks that struck residential areas.
Ukraine’s Energy Minister Svitlana Grinchuk stated that Russia conducted a “massive attack” on the country’s energy grid overnight, inflicting serious damage on multiple facilities.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said drone strikes hit parts of the capital early Wednesday, injuring residents and damaging several apartment buildings.
Officials also reported drone attacks in at least three other regions, including Zaporizhzhia, where several people were injured and thousands lost electricity.
The latest wave of strikes came shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump urged both Moscow and Kyiv to halt hostilities along their current battle lines. Trump said Tuesday that he had postponed a planned meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest, calling it “not worth having” under current conditions.
The assault underscores Moscow’s continued pressure on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure as winter approaches, renewing concerns about widespread blackouts and civilian casualties.
