The ministry indicated that the targeted infrastructure was actively supporting the Ukrainian military and noted that military airfields were also struck during the operation. Russian officials characterized the bombardment as a direct response to recent Ukrainian attacks directed at civilian targets within Russian territory.
Beyond infrastructure targets, the ministry reported that Russian aircraft, drones, artillery, and missile units struck temporary deployment sites of Ukrainian forces across 148 distinct locations. Concurrently, Russian ground troops reportedly reinforced and secured their positions in contested areas under their control.
The defence ministry also claimed significant activity from its air-defence units, stating they successfully intercepted 10 guided aerial bombs, one HIMARS rocket, and 352 Ukrainian drones. These latest strikes mark a continued escalation in the conflict, following previous assertions by Moscow that its targeting of military-related facilities in Kyiv is a retaliatory measure against cross-border operations.
