Sharjah 24 – WAM: Etihad Rail, the developer and operator of the UAE’s national railway network, has confirmed that passenger transport services will officially begin by 2026, in line with the country’s vision for a safe, efficient, and integrated transport system.

Enhancing connectivity and safety

The railway will strengthen connections between cities and communities across the UAE, meeting passenger expectations in accordance with top international standards. The network will feature routes fully separated from road traffic, eliminating risks of collision and ensuring higher safety levels.

Strategic partnerships for seamless travel

Azza Al Suwaidi, Deputy CEO of Etihad Rail Passenger Services, told Emirates News Agency (WAM) during the Global Rail 2025 exhibition and conference in Abu Dhabi that the company is building strategic partnerships to provide smooth and connected journeys. These include first- and last-mile solutions in collaboration with municipalities, local transport providers, and digital platforms.

Focus on passenger experience and technology

Etihad Rail aims to deliver a world-class travel experience that emphasizes comfort, affordability, and reliability. A “digital tickets first” model is being adopted, and stations are being planned to offer accessibility and convenience across all demographics.

Each train will have capacity for 400 passengers, with dedicated areas for work, relaxation, and reading, supporting diverse needs during travel.

Fast, efficient travel across the Emirates

Travel times are expected to be competitive with road and air transport:

Abu Dhabi to Dubai: 57 minutes

Abu Dhabi to Fujairah: 105 minutes

Abu Dhabi to Ruwais: 70 minutes

The passenger rail line will connect 11 key cities and regions, including Al Sila, Ruwais, Al Mirfa, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Al Dhaid, and Fujairah.

High-speed rail: 30 minutes between Abu Dhabi and Dubai

Al Suwaidi also highlighted the high-speed rail project, which will connect Abu Dhabi and Dubai in just 30 minutes at speeds of up to 350 km/h. This segment will be a key driver of economic impact, expected to contribute approximately AED 145 billion to the UAE's GDP over the next 50 years.

Commitment to 2026 launch

Etihad Rail remains committed to launching the passenger services on schedule by 2026, with quality, safety, and reliability guiding all stages of development and implementation.
