After starting the season with three consecutive wins, coach Igor Tudor’s team fell into a run of draws, including a dramatic 4-4 Champions League home tie against Borussia Dortmund. Juventus also continued their poor home record against Atalanta, having not beaten them in Turin since March 14, 2018. Last season, they suffered a heavy 0-4 defeat at home.
Juventus came close early when Kenan Yildiz set up Pierre Kalulu, whose header hit the post. Vasilije Adžić also tested goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi twice. However, Atalanta struck first, with Ghanaian forward Kamaldeen Sulemana scoring in the 45th minute to give his side a halftime lead.
In the second half, Tudor brought on Dusan Vlahović, Weston McKennie, Edon Zhegrova, and João Mário, but little changed. Juventus suffered a setback when Brazilian defender Bremer was forced off injured. His replacement, Colombian Juan Cabal, capitalized just minutes later, equalizing in the 78th minute after a mistake by Odilon Kossounou.
Atalanta were reduced to ten men after Marten de Roon received a second yellow card in the 80th minute. Juventus pressed for a winner, but Carnesecchi denied McKennie and Zhegrova late on. The match ended 1-1, leaving Juventus second with 11 points, one behind Napoli, while Atalanta sit sixth with nine points.
