Sheikh Haitham bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Deputy Head of the Ruler’s Office in Kalba City, officially inaugurated the 12th edition of the Kalba Short Play Festival as Abdullah Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture, attended the opening ceremony along with numerous artists, theatre practitioners, and guests.
Alia Al Zaabi, explained that the event serves as an annual "laboratory" that offers young people a vital opportunity to showcase their theatrical talents and share their creative visions with the public. This year, 14 short plays were selected to participate in a total of 34 submissions.
Al Zaabi confirmed that the performances and activities will begin tomorrow at the Kalba Popular Arts and Theatre Association. Audiences can look forward to a schedule of theatrical shows and intellectual gatherings, with plays competing for festival awards in the fields of direction, acting, and scenography.
In a statement to "Sharjah 24", the General Coordinator highlighted that the 12th edition of the festival honoured veteran artist Abdulhameed Al Balushi as the festival's honoured personality, in tribute to his distinguished career and significant contributions to enriching the local theatre movement.
