Abdullah Masoud shares his theatrical journey
As part of the training programme's mission to connect trainees with veteran professionals, Emirati artist Abdullah Masoud delivered a compelling lecture on Friday evening, August 14, titled "My Experience in Theatrical Acting."
Tracing his journey from watching a 1987 play by actor Abdullah Rashid to joining the Dibba Theatre Company—where he remains a lifelong member—Masoud discussed the initial stage fright he overcame and his early years working across various theatrical disciplines, including lighting, set design, costumes, and directing Waiting for Godot. Ultimately, he found his true calling in acting, noting that the discipline of theater kept him focused and grounded during his youth.
Advice for aspiring actors
Reflecting on his career evolution, Masoud advised aspiring actors to avoid typecasting and continuously develop their performance styles, emphasising his own transition toward selective role choices aligned with personal values and serious artistic integrity.
He highlighted his work in the critically acclaimed Sharjah National Theatre production Nimrod as one of his richest experiences, while also sharing lighthearted anecdotes about handling live-stage unpredictability through teamwork and experience.
Directing workshop to follow
Concluding his session, Masoud encouraged the new generation of actors to embrace every rehearsal, festival, and cultural exchange with enthusiasm.
The workshop series continues with a dedicated "Theatrical Directing" programme led by Egyptian artist Dr Gamal Yakout, running through August 24.
