The closing ceremony was attended by Ahmed Bourhima and led by Egyptian artist Dr Jamal Yaqout, who praised the trainees' enthusiasm and engagement during the training sessions, which comprised both theoretical lectures and practical applications.
At the closing ceremony, the workshop supervisor reviewed its key components, emphasising the practical aspects of directing. He explained that the workshop focused on equipping trainees with essential directing skills, including selecting, analysing, and adapting a script for dramatic effect in line with a clear artistic vision; the philosophy behind casting and assigning roles; and developing a work plan for each actor. The workshop also addressed collaboration between the director and the set designer, and how the latter translates the former's aesthetic and intellectual vision into the performance space.
Yaqout stated that the workshop allowed each director to work directly on their project, which they would then submit to the festival. He emphasised that he witnessed a strong commitment from everyone to complete their projects to the fullest extent. He explained that the final days of the workshop included training for directors on organising the elements of a performance, from actors to set pieces and costumes, and finally to sound, lighting, and props, ensuring that the final product adheres to a specific artistic logic and is harmonious and coherent in creating its overall meaning and expressive aesthetics. The training also covered the types of rehearsals that should be conducted before the opening night.
Bourhima thanked the supervisor for his valuable efforts and presented him with a certificate of appreciation, and wished the participants every success. The workshop on the elements of theatrical performance will continue in the coming period. Participants are engaged in intensive preparations to complete their short performances, after which a technical committee will evaluate them and select the best to participate in the festival.
