Major launch ahead of olympic pathway
The event was officially launched at a press conference in Abu Dhabi, with officials from the UAE Badminton Federation, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and players like Ryan Malhan and Ghadeer Altahri in attendance. The tournament offers valuable world ranking points and is a key qualifier for the 2026 World Championships and LA 2028 Olympics.
Rising UAE Ttalents in the spotlight
UAE players like Ryan Malhan, Abdulaziz Yahya, and the Ayyappan brothers have already made international headlines. Malhan recently won gold at the Victor Bulgaria Junior Challenge, while Yahya became the first Emirati to win a medal at an official international badminton tournament.
Players inspired to compete at home
Malhan described the chance to compete in front of a home crowd as a “dream come true.” Altahri emphasised the importance of inspiring future Emirati athletes, especially young girls.
Strong global field and top seeds
Around 300 players from 38 countries will compete. Malaysia’s Justin Hoh and Karupathevan Letshanaa are top seeds, and former world number one Kidambi Srikanth also headlines the draw.
