Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Cultural Salon hosted a seminar titled “Arab Culture in the Digital Era: Where to?” at the council’s theatre, organised by the Cultural Office of the Sharjah Family and Community Council. The session featured Dr Ahmed Bahyul Al-Din, an associate professor at Al Qasimia University, and was moderated by writer Najiba Al Rifai, along with the participation of various intellectuals and cultural figures.

The impact of digital transformation

The discussion focused on the challenges that Arab culture faces due to rapid digital shifts, the influence of artificial intelligence on literature and the arts, and the role of intellectuals in guiding social awareness while preserving both identity and the Arabic language. Dr Ahmed emphasised that cultural change has historical roots, comparing the digital era to the transformative impact of the printing press.

Balancing heritage and technology

Dr Ahmed emphasised the importance of returning to history and heritage to adapt to future changes. He referred to the Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language, which was launched by the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, as an example of how to preserve linguistic depth in support of contemporary culture.

A platform for cultural dialogue

Participants agreed on the significance of such cultural events as a platform to enrich intellectual debate and reaffirm Sharjah’s leading role in promoting Arab culture in the digital era.
