Sharjah 24: Arsenal snatched a 1-1 draw against visiting Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium in London, concluding the fifth round of the English Premier League.

Brazilian substitute Gabriel Martinelli saved his team from the nightmare of defeat against visiting Manchester City, forcing a 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium in London, concluding the fifth round of the English Premier League.

Equalising

Manchester City was on its way to its second consecutive victory and its third this season when Norwegian international striker Erling Haaland took the lead in the ninth minute. However, Martinelli, who came on in the 80th minute as a substitute for Dutchman Jurrien Timber, managed to equalise in the third minute of seven minutes of stoppage time.

Arsenal, who are chasing the title after finishing runners-up in the last three seasons, snatched a valuable point that lifted them back into second place with 10 points, five behind leaders and defending champions Liverpool, and on goal difference ahead of their neighbors Tottenham and Bournemouth. City, meanwhile, are ninth with seven points after starting the season with two surprising defeats to Tottenham (2-0) and Brighton (2-1). The Gunners remain unbeaten at home for the third consecutive match against City.

Villa and the winning complex

Meanwhile, Aston Villa failed to taste victory for the fifth consecutive match, drawing 1-1 with a man-less Sunderland.

Villa squandered the lead in the 67th minute through Polish striker Matty Cash, who scored his team's first league goal of the season. Wilson Isidor equalised eight minutes later for Sunderland, who finished the match with ten men after the 33rd minute following the expulsion of Mozambican full-back Reinildo Mandava.
