Dr Eng. Abdullah Mahmoud Salem, Head of the Engineering Studies Department at Sharjah’s Housing Department, highlighted the authority’s practical sustainability initiatives, including the use of eco-friendly construction materials, applying sustainable design principles with a focus on energy efficiency and natural ventilation, and implementing maintenance programs that ensure long-term housing sustainability.
He explained that one of the department’s key goals is to balance rising demand for housing units with environmental and social considerations. Among the solutions adopted are sustainable, eco-friendly residential complexes that reduce environmental impact while offering residents a better quality of life.
Saud Abdulaziz Al Khayal, Deputy Director of Project Regulation at Sharjah Real Estate Registration Department, noted that the emirate’s real estate projects demonstrate harmony between quality and sustainability. He referred to the “Sharjah Sustainable City”, which relies on renewable energy and water treatment plants, as a model for developers to emulate.
Al Khayal added that the “Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan City” project offers a unique experience that blends innovation with sustainability, encouraging investors to move towards sustainable developments for their high quality and positive impact on the sector’s future.
The 14th edition of IGCF, organised by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau at Expo Centre Sharjah, continues over two days as a global platform, bringing together experts, decision-makers, and media professionals to discuss pressing issues under the theme "Communication for Quality of Life."
