According to Gaza’s civil defence agency, Israeli forces killed at least 82 people across the Strip on Tuesday amid a worsening humanitarian crisis. Concurrently, activists protesting the conflict formed a group named “Soldiers for the Hostages” in Tel Aviv, urging fellow reservists to refuse service. A group member characterized continued military action as a betrayal of both hostages and Israeli citizens.
Israeli media reports indicate that approximately 40,000 reservists have been called up in the initial wave. Gaza City, home to nearly one million residents amid a region-stricken by famine, now stands on the frontlines of conflict.
Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir called on reservists to bolster operational capabilities, stating, “We are already entering places we have never entered before.” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised their efforts, describing the operation as advancing “Israel towards a sweeping victory” and marking the “decisive stage.”
Palestinians in Gaza City expressed helplessness as displacement intensified. With overcrowded shelters offering little refuge, many resorted to makeshift tents in frantic search of safety. Although Israeli authorities promoted Al-Mawasi as a humanitarian zone offering medical care and supplies, access remains limited amid ongoing strikes.
An air strike on a residential building in southwest Gaza City claimed 10 lives, including children. Survivors described waking in terror as neighbors were killed or injured in their sleep. Evidence remains difficult to verify due to media restrictions and limited access in the area.
Pressure continues to build on Israel to cease its offensive. This week, Belgium joined countries like Australia, Canada, and France in recognizing the State of Palestine at the UN. The October 2023 Hamas attack resulted in 1,219 deaths, mostly civilians, and 251 hostages—47 of whom remain in Gaza, with 25 reportedly dead. The retaliatory offensive has resulted in over 63,600 Palestinian deaths, largely civilians, according to data considered reliable by the UN.
