SCCI marks Emirati Women’s Day, backs women entrepreneurs

Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) organised a special ceremony to mark the 10th Emirati Women’s Day, held under the theme “Hand in Hand, We Celebrate 50 Years.” The event aligns with the nationwide celebrations, highlighting the exceptional achievements of Emirati women across various fields under the steadfast support of the UAE's wise leadership.

Honouring women's role in nation-building

The celebration paid tribute to the progress and influence of Emirati women, who have become key contributors to national development. The unwavering commitment of the UAE leadership has made women’s empowerment a cornerstone of the country’s ongoing progress.

Distinguished attendees and institutional support

The event was attended by prominent figures, including His Excellency Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI; her Excellency Raghda Hamad Omran Taryam, SCCI Board Member; His Excellency Mohammad Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director-General of SCCI; and Maryam Saif Al Shamsi, Assistant Director General of Support Services; and department heads and members of SCCI’s female workforce.

During the event, the Chamber reaffirmed its support for Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak’s "50:50 Vision," a strategic initiative designed to elevate women’s leadership over the next 50 years.

Empowerment as a strategic priority

Abdallah Sultan Al Owais emphasised that Emirati Women’s Day is an opportunity to translate national aspirations into measurable outcomes.

“Women’s contribution to the UAE’s economy has reached unprecedented levels,” he said, “demonstrating the effectiveness of empowerment initiatives and their role in driving transformation.”

Mohammad Ahmed Amin Al Awadi reinforced the Chamber’s commitment to implementing policies that support women, especially through initiatives targeting women-led SMEs and providing tools for long-term success.

Developing the next generation of women leaders

Maryam Saif Al Shamsi highlighted the Chamber’s focus on empowering female entrepreneurs through innovation- and technology-focused training programmes. These aim to cultivate skills in digital transformation and support the development of sustainable, tech-driven enterprises.

Inspiring dialogue and shared success stories

The event featured a documentary video on Emirati Women’s Day, followed by a panel discussion titled “The Success of Emirati Women.”

The panel included Sheikha Moza Al Maktoum, Captain Pilot, and Her Excellency Halima Humaid Ali Al Owais, SCCI Board Member.

Moderated by Faiz Al Yamahi, Chairman of the Fujairah Youth Council, the session shared powerful insights into leadership, entrepreneurship, and the evolving role of women in shaping the UAE's development agenda.

Workshop on national values and community engagement

To conclude the celebration, the Chamber partnered with the Sharjah Museums Authority to deliver an interactive workshop aimed at reinforcing national values and highlighting the vital role women play in community and economic development.
