The talks occurred during a meeting held at the SCCI headquarters between Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI, and Zaake Wanume Kibedi, Uganda’s Ambassador to the UAE. The session was also attended by Mohammad Ahmed Amin Al-Awadi, Director-General of SCCI; Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, Assistant Director-General for Communication and Business Sector at SCCI; and Dr Fatima Khalifa Al Muqarrab, Director of the International Relations Department at SCCI.
During the session, both parties reviewed the consistent growth of economic cooperation between Sharjah and Uganda. This relationship has seen substantial advancement recently, backed by joint initiatives and strategic investment partnerships across multiple industries. Abdallah Sultan Al Owais commended the Embassy of Uganda in the UAE for its steady efforts in backing the Sharjah Chamber’s initiatives and strengthening trade and economic cooperation between the two business sectors. He pointed out that Sharjah offers a highly competitive investment landscape for Ugandan businesses looking to expand regionally and globally, thanks to its strategic location, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and a business-friendly environment that fosters sustainable growth across sectors. Al Owais reconfirmed that the SCCI stands ready to offer Ugandan investors extensive support services and facilitations, allowing them to utilize Sharjah as an entry point to regional markets.
Uganda announces forthcoming trade mission to the UAE
Zaake Wanume Kibedi shared the initial itinerary for Uganda’s upcoming trade mission to the UAE, set for October 2026. The high-profile delegation will feature senior government officials, business leaders, and representatives from prominent Ugandan firms looking to forge new trade alliances and expand bilateral investment. The Sharjah Chamber welcomed the upcoming visit and stated its readiness to arrange business matchmaking events and meetings with Sharjah’s business community to foster mutually rewarding partnerships.
The Ugandan delegation noted the impressive growth in bilateral trade between the UAE and Uganda, which surged from US$600 million in 2018 to US$4.7 billion, illustrating the powerful ties and expanding economic potential between the two nations. Additionally, the delegation praised the Sharjah Chamber's proactive contributions and backing of strategic development projects in Uganda, voicing their country's desire to leverage SCCI’s expertise and economic capacity to push forward sustainable development goals.
Sharjah Chamber and Jordan deliberate on trade and investment pathways
In a separate gathering, Abdallah Sultan Al Owais met with Omar El Atoum, Consul General of the Kingdom of Jordan in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, focusing discussions on deepening economic ties and broadening trade and investment cooperation. The Jordanian Consul General was briefed on the extensive business support services provided by the Sharjah Chamber, including programs designed to improve the business climate, simplify regulatory procedures, and foster innovation and competitiveness.
Both parties underlined the value of maintaining continuous communication and institutional synergy between the Sharjah Chamber and the Jordanian Consulate to boost private-sector collaboration and support economic advancement. They also explored the potential of staging joint business forums and investment events to showcase Jordan's investment potential to Sharjah’s business sector, while setting up B2B meetings between enterprises and economic bodies in mutually beneficial fields. These joint efforts are anticipated to spur new commercial alliances, generate prosperous business ventures, and scale up trade between Sharjah and Jordan.
