Sharjah 24: Female athletes from Khorfakkan Club for the Disabled won first place at the 2025 Czech Grand Prix for para-athletics, one of the most important events on the International Paralympic Committee's calendar, marking a new milestone in the UAE's sporting history. Mariam Ahmed Al Zayoudi earned a gold medal in the javelin throw and a bronze in the discus throw, while another athlete, Mariam Al Matroushi, took another bronze in the discus. This accomplishment reinforces the club's international prominence and role in enabling disabled athletes.

Leadership praises Sharjah's vision and support

Abdullah Saleh Al Naqbi, chairman of the Khorfakkan Club for the Disabled, expressed delight in the athletes' achievements. He commended the victory to His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, as well as the Sharjah Sports Council's continued support. He congratulated the athletes and emphasised the council's key role in their accomplishments.

The vice chairman focuses on long-term planning

Louay Saeed Allay, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Khorfakkan Club, said the club's success stems from years of strategic preparation and dedication. He emphasised that enhancing the technical and physical qualities of the club's athletes is a primary focus, which is backed by well-designed training programs and skilled staff.

Strong performance compared to global competitors

Khalil Mohammed Jumaa Al Mansouri, Head of Delegation, reflected on the team's high-level competition during the event, which included prominent teams from Europe and Asia. Despite the strong competition, he applauded the players' determination and resilience, which helped them reach the podium. He praised the team's excellent sportsmanship and discipline during the championship.

Technical head praises months of preparation

Abdulaziz Al Hammadi, chair of the technical committee and talent development at the club, emphasised that the outcomes were the result of months of meticulous planning. The club followed a well-defined development plan, beginning with talent discovery and progressing via scientific and technical training to international participation. He described the success as a stepping stone to future continental and worldwide competitions.

Ending the season on a positive note

The club completed a tremendous season that included both home and international victories. Club officials stated that these repeated accomplishments are the product of concerted efforts by technical and administrative departments, overseen by the Sharjah Sports Council and backed by strong community and institutional support.
