The seminar is part of the Association’s ongoing efforts to promote a culture of recovery, offer sustainable support for individuals recovering from addiction, and encourage informed dialogue around the psychological, social, and legal challenges they face in their journey toward reintegration and stability.
Dr Mohammed bin Jarsh, Chair of the Cultural Committee and a board member of the Sociologists Association, emphasised that the seminar reflects the Association’s vision of addressing sensitive social issues through scientific and humane approaches. He noted that recovery requires more than individual treatment — it demands an integrated approach combining prevention, care, and reintegration.
He stated:
"Reducing the impact of addiction requires a collective national effort involving health, social, educational and legal institutions, alongside families, communities, and the media. Our goal is not only to support those in recovery, but also to eliminate the causes of addiction and foster a culture of prevention that upholds human dignity and the right to heal."
Among the participants is Ms Aisha Amiri, Head of the Psychological and Social Department at Erada Rehabilitation Centre, who will present a paper on modern therapeutic techniques and supportive tools used in recovery programmes. She will stress the importance of integrated planning for holistic, sustainable recovery.
Professor Dr Fakhir Al-Gharaibeh, Director of the Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences Research, will outline the role of families and communities in supporting recovery, restoring strained relationships, reducing stigma, and improving efforts for reintegration through education, religious institutions, and media.
Dr Zayed Al Shamsi, legal advisor and Chair of the UAE Lawyers and Jurists Association, will address the legal frameworks that safeguard the rights and dignity of recovering individuals, protect them from discrimination, and help ensure their reintegration into the workforce and society.
The seminar will be moderated by media personality Aisha Al Badwawi in an interactive panel discussion designed to engage the audience and explore practical proposals for institutionalising recovery and expanding opportunities for empowerment.
