Engineer Faisal Al Sarkal, Director of the Water Department at the Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority (SEWA), explained that the authority is focused on the continuous development of water transmission and distribution networks to increase water flow capacity. This is aimed at meeting the rapid growth in water demand across various areas of Sharjah. The authority has set a strategy for water sustainability and network development through expansion projects and ambitious initiatives that align with the comprehensive development journey in infrastructure, construction, economy, and urbanisation in Sharjah, led by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
Al Sarkal emphasised that replacing old pipes with modern, high-quality materials significantly enhances the long-term reliability and efficiency of the water network while ensuring public health and safety.
The authority's plan for 2025 includes replacing 40 kilometres of old asbestos pipes with new GRE pipes in different areas of Sharjah, including Al Hazannah, Al Jazat, and Industrial Area 13, with an estimated cost exceeding 40 million dirhams. The plan also includes expanding the water network by 60 kilometres to meet the needs of Sharjah's growing population, as well as completing the water network in several new areas.
