Sharjah 24: Punitive and Correctional Institution Department at Sharjah Police General Command (SPGC) organised a family forum bringing together 25 inmates and their families at the General Command headquarters.

The forum, held in a friendly community atmosphere, aimed to instill human values and strengthen family ties, as part of sustainable efforts focused on the rehabilitation and social dimensions of inmates.

The forum was attended by His Excellency Brigadier Dr. Ali Ahmed Bu Al Zoud, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Community Protection and Prevention; Colonel Abdullah Alai Al Naqbi, Director of Sharjah Police Punitive and Correctional Institution Department; a number of officers, and inmates' families.

Family support is key towards positive change

His Excellency Brigadier Dr. Ali Bu Al Zoud explained that organising the forum falls within the framework of SPGC commitment to instilling concepts of true rehabilitation, reflecting its belief that family support constitutes the first turning point in an inmate's path toward positive change. This contributes to strengthening inmates' relationship with their family and building bridges of reassurance between them and their social environment.

Building an integrated system of care and rehabilitation

For his part, Colonel Abdullah Alai highlighted the institution's interest and commitment to these humanitarian initiatives, which aim to build an integrated system of care and rehabilitation, beginning within the institution and extending to the inmate's family environment, as the family is the primary nurturing supporter of the reform and rehabilitation journey.

For their part, inmates and their families expressed their deep gratitude and appreciation to Sharjah Police for this humanitarian gesture, which revived feelings of intimacy and family bonds and gave them a sense of hope that strengthened their will to achieve positive change.
