Sharjah24: As part of its efforts to protecting young people from the dangers of falling into drug abuse, Brigadier Majid Sultan Al Asam, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Prevention and Control Department at Sharjah Police, expressed his sincere appreciation and gratitude to all attendees and participants of the 2026 Annual Anti-Drugs Forum.

Strengthening Cooperation to combat drug abus

In statements to Sharjah 24, Brigadier Al Asam noted that this year’s theme for the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking carries a message calling for unified efforts to eradicate the phenomenon through integration and joint action with all partners across government and community sectors.

Family as the first line of defence

Al Asam stressed that the family represents the first line of defence against this scourge and the protective shield that raises children's awareness of the dangers of drug abuse , emphasising the importance of parents possessing full awareness and a thorough understanding of their children’s behaviour, as well as effective methods of monitoring and guiding them. He underscored the risks posed by social media platforms, which drug traffickers and promoters exploit to spread their harmful influence and target young people.

Advanced capabilities and proactive monitoring

He explained that Sharjah Police’s Anti-Narcotics Prevention and Control Department possesses advanced capabilities and a proactive vision for monitoring and blocking suspicious websites, as well as apprehending drug traffickers and individuals involved with such substances.

The department relies on accurate figures and statistics from operations carried out both within and outside the UAE, reflecting the success of the security strategies implemented in this field.
