Sharjah24: Thomas Müller's long and decorated journey with Bayern Munich will conclude at the end of the current season, marking the end of a 25-year association with the German football powerhouse, the club confirmed on Saturday.
The 35-year-old shared via Instagram that he wanted to clarify recent speculation, stating that despite reduced playing time, he still enjoys being on the pitch and fighting alongside his teammates for the club’s success. He had hoped to continue in a similar role next season, but revealed that the club has decided not to renew his contract.
He expressed respect for the board’s decision, acknowledging it was likely a difficult one, though he admitted disappointment with how the media handled the situation in recent months. Emphasising the importance of teamwork and resilience, he likened the moment to recovering after a misstep on the pitch.
Müller joined Bayern’s youth ranks in 2000 and progressed through the system to make his senior debut under coach Jürgen Klinsmann in 2008. Over his career, he has won every major honour available with the club, including 12 Bundesliga titles, two UEFA Champions League trophies (in 2012 and 2020), and two FIFA Club World Cups (in 2013 and 2020).
He holds the club record for most appearances, with 743 matches, including a Bundesliga record of 497 and 161 in the Champions League. With 247 goals to his name, Müller ranks third in Bayern’s all-time scoring chart, behind legends Gerd Müller (565) and Robert Lewandowski (344).
