Sharjah 24: The Financial, Economic and Industrial Affairs Committee of Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) held a meeting with Hamad Abdullah Ali Al Mahmoud, Member of Sharjah Executive Council and Chairman of the Department of Economic Development, to discuss ways to enhance business and develop the economic sector in the emirate, within the framework of the department’s competencies.
The visit came as part of the committee’s preparations to discuss the policy of the Department of Economic Development in the next session of the Consultative Council, as part of its keenness to follow up on the tireless efforts to develop this vital sector.
The meeting held, on Thursday, was attended by a number of members of SCC Financial, Economic and Industrial Affairs Committee, headed by Rashid Abdullah bin Howaiden, along with committee members Amer Mohammed Al Zarouni and Abdullah Taresh Al Ketbi, and in the presence of a number of council members, namely Jassim Al Hanawi Al Naqbi, Dr. Hind Saleh Al Hajri, Mohammed Ali bin Salim Al Ketbi, and Amna Salem Basalib, Sessions Affairs Officer and Secretary of the Committee.
Hamad Ali Abdullah Al Mahmoud, Chairman of the Department, received the committee delegation at the Department’s headquarters in Sharjah, in the presence of Fahd Al Khamiri, Director of the Department, and a number of directors of departments, sections and branches.
Creating an attractive environment for investments
At the beginning of the meeting, His Excellency Hamad Ali Abdullah Al Mahmoud welcomed SCC committee members, praising the role of the Council as a parliament that represents the voice of society in following up on the work of government departments and the remarkable interest in the economic sector.
Al Mahmoud pointed out the importance of converging SCC orientations with the Department of Economic Development in supporting and encouraging investments and developing various business sectors within the emirate. He also explained that all procedures followed to start businesses help create an attractive environment for investments in light of the emirate's infrastructure, facilities, services and facilities as a result of the cooperation of government agencies in Sharjah to provide all support to investors.
Al Mahmoud pointed out that the department succeeded in reducing the time required to complete licenses and transactions through several measures taken to develop services to match the highest international quality standards.
Enhancing institutional competitiveness and achieving sustainable development
Al Mahmoud stressed the department's keenness to enhance institutional competitiveness and achieve comprehensive sustainable development in accordance with the local government strategy and to achieve common goals that serve the public interest and strengthen joint cooperation in a way that contributes to enhancing and improving the performance of the national economy and supporting the competitiveness of various economic sectors and creating an encouraging environment for investment, which in turn contributes to raising the level of attractiveness of the emirate to attract more businesses.
Enhancing economic development efforts
Al Mahmoud touched on the department's commitment to enhancing economic development efforts in the emirate, noting that the department is working to develop effective economic policies that contribute to enhancing economic growth and achieving comprehensive development. He pointed out the importance of reviewing SCC opinion in achieving these goals, expressing the department's readiness to provide all necessary support to achieve economic integration between various government agencies.
Supporting Sharjah economic vision
The Chairman of the Department of Economic Development pointed out that the department, in accordance with its plans, is working to support the economic visions of the Emirate of Sharjah through effective policies and strategic partnerships that enhance sustainable growth and support the achievement of comprehensive development goals.
The meeting discussed a number of economic initiatives and projects that contribute to the development of the emirate's economic resources, including enhancing local and international investments, and supporting promising industrial and economic sectors. The importance of enhancing resource efficiency was also noted, ensuring the achievement of sustainable development goals.
During the meeting, SCC members also discussed a number of financial and economic issues of interest to the Emirate of Sharjah, with a focus on the integrated economic approach with various government agencies, and the development of financial resources to achieve sustainable development goals.
For his part, Rashid bin Howaiden stressed the keenness to pay attention to various economic sectors, especially the Department of Economic Development and its roles and competencies in this field, noting that the visit comes within the framework of the Council's preparations to discuss supportive means to achieve the economic vision of the Emirate of Sharjah. He pointed out the need for integration between government agencies to ensure the optimal use of available resources.
Bin Howaiden added that SCC Financial Affairs Committee works in accordance with the Council's policies to support government agencies in the Emirate of Sharjah, identify the challenges, and work to achieve the emirate's vision of being a leading economic hub at the regional level.
