Sharjah24: The Sharjah Social Empowerment Foundation (SSEF) is actively working to support and academically empower students who have lost their fathers by organising a specialised training course for the IELTS exam. The American University of Sharjah (AUS) partnered with the Sharjah Social Empowerment Foundation (SSEF) to carry out this initiative, which involved 35 students affiliated with the foundation. It is part of the "Teach with the Pen" project, which emphasises academic empowerment and aims to prepare participants for success in the international test.

Enhancing academic skills for university admission

This initiative reflects the foundation's dedication to ensuring students are academically prepared, as the IELTS test is a crucial requirement for admission to numerous universities and educational institutions. From this perspective, the foundation was eager to partner with AUS to offer intensive training designed to improve the participants' academic skills and equip them to approach the test in the most effective manner.

Comprehensive training led by AUS volunteers

The course was led by volunteer students from AUS, who offered participants thorough practical training that encompassed intensive instruction on the four fundamental skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The programme featured interactive training sessions that simulated the actual IELTS test while also providing effective strategies for question-solving and time management during the exam. Additionally, participants received individual support aimed at addressing their weaknesses and enhancing their language skills.

Successful collaboration for impactful results

Nawal Al Hamadi, Director of Social Welfare Management at SSEF, commended the productive collaboration with AUS, noting that the involvement of volunteer students was instrumental in the success of the course. Their practical guidance and exceptional academic support enabled the students to fully benefit from the training. This course is anticipated to enhance participants' performance on the IELTS test, boost their chances of acceptance into universities and educational institutions, and improve their language skills, thereby supporting them in reaching their educational goals.

Commitment to long-term academic support

She continued: The foundation remains dedicated to supporting and empowering orphaned students connected with the organisation through the "Teach with the Pen" project. It consistently implements educational and qualifying programmes designed to assist these students academically, ensuring they have equal educational opportunities and helping them to build a bright future. The foundation aims to enhance collaborations with educational institutions to guarantee the delivery of optimal programmes that align with their needs and support them in reaching their aspirations.

"Teach with the Pen" initiative

The initiative "Teach with the Pen" is focused on addressing the challenges encountered in student education. This project comprehensively meets educational needs by offering a variety of supportive programmes. These include assistance with tuition fees, support for university education, and the provision of digital learning devices and educational supplies, as well as specialised tutoring lessons and academic courses aimed at enhancing study skills. We focus on students with learning difficulties as well as gifted children, ensuring they receive the support they need.

AUS commitment to inclusive education

Conversely, Aisha Hassan Al Raisi, Director of the Community Service and Institutional Communication Department, remarked, "Education is a right for everyone." The Community Service and Institutional Communication Department at AUS manages this initiative. This initiative seeks to offer educational opportunities to every segment of society, irrespective of their living standards. With a strong commitment to this principle, the department is implementing this initiative to harness the academic skills and expertise available at the university for the benefit of the community, particularly focusing on orphans.

Tutoring sessions for IELTS

She continued: A key component of this initiative is the tutoring sessions for the IELTS exams, designed to assist orphans in gaining admission to university. Students who volunteer offer essential assistance and preparatory lessons to ensure success in the exam. This volunteer opportunity has seen remarkable participation from student volunteers, who demonstrate a deep dedication to sharing knowledge with orphans and assisting them in overcoming academic obstacles.

Appreciation for continued collaboration

She added, "We express our gratitude to SSEF for its ongoing collaboration with the Community Services and Institutional Communication Department, recognising it as a valued partner in offering volunteer opportunities that enhance this initiative." This initiative demonstrates the institution's dedication to providing quality programmes aimed at empowering academically disadvantaged children, fostering their independence, and equipping them for success and excellence in their future endeavours.

Fostering future opportunities for orphans

The institution's commitment to education serves as a crucial foundation for empowering the children in its care and creating bright future opportunities for them. The institution plays a vital role in fostering a generation equipped to tackle challenges and realise its aspirations through the provision of supportive programmes. Consequently, the ongoing support and community unity surrounding these initiatives foster a life of dignity and pave the way for a future brimming with opportunities for these driven young individuals.
