Optical Astronomy workshop concludes at SAASST

Sharjah24:Professor Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah (UOS) and Director General of the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST), attended the closing ceremony of the Hands-on Workshop (HOW) on Optical Astronomy and Utilizing the ESO Archive. The workshop, organized by SAASST in collaboration with the International Astronomical Union (IAU), was held over two weeks, aimed at training students from various countries around the world, enriching their scientific knowledge in analyzing astronomical systems using ESO data.
In his speech, Prof. Al Nuaimi conveyed the greetings of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, to the attendees and participants of the workshop. He highlighted that the workshop aims to qualify participants and enhance their skills under the supervision of a distinguished group of researchers and scholars in fields of astronomical research, and optical and radio observations. He also emphasised the University's readiness to support all participants and continue collaborating with them in various scientific and research fields.

The workshop included several specialised lectures and hands on sessions, using the latest software and techniques in astronomy. The participating students worked on several projects, which involved studying astronomical phenomena, in addition to projects focused on studying binary star systems and different astronomical bodies using the most accurate analytical techniques, under the direct supervision of scientists from the European Southern Observatory.
