AQU wraps up Int’l conference with new Arabic initiatives

Sharjah24: Al Qasimia University (AQU) has concluded its two-day international conference, which focused on the theme “Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers: Methods and Specificities.” The event brought together a diverse group of experts and researchers, featuring numerous research sessions and training workshops.

Notable support praised

Participants expressed their appreciation for the unwavering backing provided by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, as well as the founder of Al Qasimia University. They lauded his initiatives to enhance Arabic language education received widespread praise, including the Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language, which was introduced by the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah.

Innovative initiatives highlighted

The final statement highlighted the AQU’s success in teaching Arabic to students from over 100 non-Arab nationalities. It emphasised the university’s pioneering initiatives, such as publishing the “Al Qasimia University Series in Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers” and launching the pilot phase of the “Mubeen” Arabic language platform. This cutting-edge digital platform uses advanced educational methodologies and aligns with Al Qasimia University’s global mission.

Advanced educational platform

The platform, a groundbreaking initiative in the UAE, provides interactive educational content via the university’s Language Center. It includes self-paced online learning and applications powered by artificial intelligence. The program includes seven different proficiency levels, ranging from introductory to advanced, and offers electronic language assessments. Upon completing the course, learners have the opportunity to receive certified digital certificates.

Key recommendations issued

The conference wrapped up with a series of important recommendations, emphasizing the need for the integration of all four language skills—reading, writing, speaking, and listening—as well as the inclusion of positive cultural values in educational resources. There is a call for the establishment of stronger academic partnerships, the sharing of experiences, and the utilisation of AI and remote learning technologies to improve educational programs.

The concluding statement praised the significant contributions of the UAE and Sharjah in promoting the Arabic language. The statement highlighted the critical need for ongoing cooperation among academic institutions to broaden Arabic language education for non-native speakers, thereby bolstering its global importance.
