The championship, which was supported by the Ministry of Education, Sharjah Private Education Authority, UAE Athletics Federation, and NMC Royal Hospital, witnessed the participation of 516 female students representing 22 schools from the Emirate of Sharjah. The students competed in three age groups: 9-10 years, 11-12 years, and 13-14 years, in running races of 60 metres, 150 metres, and 300 metres, in addition to long jump and shot put competitions.
This edition raised the total number of participants in the championship across its five editions to 1916 students, reflecting the great turnout and growing interest from schools in the Emirate of Sharjah.
The participating schools included a variety of government, private and international schools.
This diversity reflects the schools’ keenness to promote sports as part of their culture and educational role.
The event rules stipulated achieving minimum results in each competition to obtain awards. This step aims to encourage schools to improve training programmes and commit to continuous preparation throughout the year. This policy also reinforces the importance of sports excellence and the role of physical activity in developing students’ capabilities in a sustainable manner.
Her Excellency Hanan Al Mahmoud, Vice Chairperson of the Sharjah Women’s Sports, expressed her pride in the level demonstrated by the students, saying: “This championship is not just a sporting event, but rather part of the Foundation’s vision to enhance the status of women’s sports and its role in building a generation aware of the importance of practicing sports continuously and adopting it as a way of life. The enjoyable competition between students highlights the importance of activating the sports period in schools in a serious and systematic manner, and enhancing commitment to sports curricula to achieve sustainability of sports activity.
We extend our sincere thanks to our partners and supporters for their distinguished role in making this event a success.”
Her Excellency Moza Al Shamsi, Director of the Sharjah Women’s Sports, added: “Organising this championship comes as part of our ongoing efforts to promote school sports and make it an essential part of the school culture. The results we saw today reflect the importance of joint work between the Foundation, schools and supporting bodies to achieve our national goals in developing women’s sports.”
Alyazia Al Suwaidi, Head of the Technical Preparation and Follow-up Division at the Sharjah Women’s Sports, confirmed: “This year, we have witnessed an improvement in the number of participants and the level of organisation, which reflects the schools’ commitment to effective participation. Through this championship, we aim to encourage schools to develop effective sports training programmes, and to invest participation as an opportunity to measure the sports performance of female students and motivate them to commit to sports classes.”
Dana Yousef from Al Nouf School said after achieving third place in the shot put: “It was a wonderful and challenging experience. The preparations we have done with our school throughout the year have contributed greatly to this success, and I am excited to continue in this sport.”
Her colleague Rahaf Yousef, who won first place, added: “The championship was not only an opportunity to compete, but also to develop our athletic abilities and learn from our colleagues. I thank my school and the Sharjah Women’s Sports for this special event.”
Maryam Ali Al Zahidi, from Al Ramaqiya School, expressed her happiness at achieving third place in the 150-metre race, saying: “I am very happy with this achievement. The race was full of enthusiasm and challenge, and with the support of my school and the encouragement of my colleagues, I was able to reach the podium. This championship was a wonderful experience.”
Dr. Al Mukhtar Shatara, Director of the Scientific Centre for Sports Performance Research and Development, said: “Providing a platform for scientific measurements in the championship helped in understanding the physical characteristics of the students. Through this data, we aim to build accurate local standards that enhance the development of community sports and contribute to the development of training programmes in a systematic and thoughtful manner.”
The championship concluded with the crowning of the winners of the first places in each competition, in addition to honouring the partners, supporters, and coaches from the participating schools, with certificates and shields of appreciation, in recognition of their valuable efforts in supporting the success of the event. This championship represents a milestone in promoting school sports, and its role in supporting the development of women's sports in the Emirate of Sharjah, by creating a healthy competitive environment that contributes to building a committed sports generation ready to excel.
