In this context, Jamal Al Mazmi, Director of the Health Monitoring and Safety Department, confirmed that the Sharjah Municipality has installed 90 smart traps for mosquito control throughout various areas of the city. These traps are strategically placed in residential neighborhoods, public parks, and other locations to combat mosquitoes and monitor their activity, ensuring a healthy environment for residents and visitors. This initiative aims to keep areas free from disease-carrying mosquitoes, contributing significantly to the health and safety of the community.
Al Mazmi explained that the smart mosquito traps operate on solar power around the clock, ensuring continuous monitoring and effectiveness in combating mosquitoes. Municipality teams oversee these traps using a specialised satellite system, staffed by trained professionals. He noted that the municipality regularly assesses the traps' performance, dispatching specialized teams to address high mosquito prevalence readings until infestations are resolved. The Health Monitoring and Safety Department has established a high-standard operational mechanism for pest control, providing necessary resources and specialized personnel to enhance public health and protect the environment while mitigating pest-related damage. Pest control activities are conducted using modern equipment, including ultra-fine fogging and misting machines for treating flying stages.
