Sharjah24: The Sharjah Islamic Affairs Department (SIAD) has officially opened Shis Mosque in the Shis area. The mosque has the capacity to host 350 worshippers, with 105 designated spaces for women, reflecting the department's commitment to serving both local residents and visitors attracted to the region's natural beauty.
This initiative reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, aimed at improving access to mosques and promoting peaceful worship throughout the emirate.
The opening ceremony saw the presence of Dr Eng. Salah bin Butti Al Muhairi, Chairman of the Sharjah Initiatives Implementation Authority (Mubadara); Abdullah Khalifa Bin Yarouf Al Sebousi, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Islamic Affairs; and several other dignitaries. Participants engaged in prayers and listened to a sermon that emphasised the significance of mosque architecture.
The Initiatives Implementation Authority, under the guidance of the Sharjah government, supports the mosque, showcasing a harmonious blend of contemporary and traditional Islamic architectural styles. The design features a central dome, a 30-metre minaret, and eco-friendly facilities that promote energy and water conservation.
The mosque spans 716 square meters and features 20 ablution facilities, accessible pathways for individuals with special needs, and modern amenities designed for visitor comfort.
Al Sebousi commended the emirate's leadership for its continuous backing of mosque development, highlighting that the Shis Mosque serves as a symbol of Islamic culture and adds to the region's allure as a distinctive tourist destination.
