Sharjah24: The Human Resources Committee at Dibba Al Hisn Cultural and Sports Club has organised an educational workshop titled “Cyber Extortion Workshop”. The session was presented by lawyer Ahmed Rashid Jaber Al Salami as part of its strategic plan.
Yesterday's session at the club's headquarters featured the attendance of Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Al Mutawa, Chairman of the Board of Directors, alongside notable officials, players, and staff members.
In the workshop, Al Salami characterised cyber extortion as a type of cybercrime that applies information technologies and communication tools, including email, social media, and text messages. He addressed the function of "information brokers" employed by outside organisations and emphasised the necessity of collaborative initiatives to enhance awareness throughout all sectors of society.
The session highlighted the risks associated with suspicious links or untrustworthy messages, encouraging participants to foster a culture of vigilance and disseminate this awareness broadly. Real-life instances of cyber extortion were showcased to highlight the gravity of these offences and their possible repercussions, accompanied by practical solutions to address them.
Al Salami commended the UAE’s Cybercrimes and Rumours Law, highlighting its role in establishing a thorough legal framework aimed at safeguarding society against internet-related offences. The law aims to safeguard government websites, databases, and individual privacy while combating the spread of fake news, online fraud, and privacy violations.
This workshop underscores Dibba Al Hisn Club’s commitment to educating its members and fostering a safer, more informed community.
