Sharjah 24: His Excellency Khalifa Al Tunaiji, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Agriculture and Livestock (SDAL), announced the commencement of the first harvest of “Ektifa” Sidr honey at Al Muntathar Reserve, under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
Al Tunaiji explained that this initiative aims to boost the beekeeping and honey production sector by applying top international practices, marking a step toward self-sufficiency in high-quality honey products within the Emirate.

In an exclusive statement to "Sharjah 24," Al Tunaiji noted that the honey production project, now entering its initial harvest, is geared toward developing the beekeeping sector in Sharjah. The first batch is set for market release in November 2024, with commercial-scale production anticipated in the first half of 2025, declared by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah as the “Golden Year.” The project, executed in collaboration with the Environment and Protected Areas Authority in Sharjah, is based on rigorous scientific and applied research supervised by global experts, ensuring the best practices suited to the UAE’s environment.

He further highlighted the unique health benefits of the honey produced, stemming from Sharjah's mountainous landscapes and rich biodiversity. Natural reserves across the Emirate are home to Sidr, Samar, and Ghaf trees, contributing to the distinctive qualities of the honey. This initiative supports local economic growth by providing a high-quality, eco-reflective product, promoting self-sufficiency and showcasing Sharjah’s environmental diversity.
