Dr Omar Abdulaziz, acknowledging the club's commitment to celebrating its members' cultural accomplishments, praised the novel for its inventive narrative style and its portrayal of Mauritanian society, heritage, and traditions.
The novel, published by Syria’s Dar Tammuz, is set against the historical backdrop of the city of Oualata, intertwining mythic symbols with everyday life and encapsulating the essence of this ancient oasis.
Journalist Mohamed Baba Hamid commended the novel’s vivid language, portraying it as an engaging journey through Mauritania’s desert and caravan routes, from Timbuktu to Tichitt. He observed Hassan’s intricate depiction of the characters, particularly “Badi,” whose subtle wisdom unveils the complex social dynamics of this desert area.
The evening wrapped up with attendees praising Hassan’s work, unanimously agreeing that “Musufi Inscriptions” rightfully earned the Chinguetti Prize for its profound cultural richness, historical perspective, and elegant narrative style.
