Sharjah 24: Sharjah’s Poetry House held the first poetry evening at its new headquarters on Tuesday, after its opening, as part of the Tuesday Forum activities.
The poetry evening was held in the presence of His Excellency Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture; poet Mohammed Abdullah Al Buraiki, Director of Poetry House; and a large audience from all over the UAE, including critics, academics and poets.
Poet Suleiman Al Jijan, poet Abdullah Majid, and poet Amani Naqqar attended the evening.
The evening was presented by Professor Ruqayya Al Jilani, who thanked His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for His Highness’s valuable gift to the cultural scene represented by the new headquarters of the Poetry House.
Al Jilani also praised the role of Sharjah, which "carried on its shoulders the message of culture in the Arab world. Sharjah, which deservedly earned the title of the Capital of Arab and Islamic Culture."
The readings were opened by the poet Suleiman Al Jijan, who read texts that delved into the souls of poets, and explored their transformations and identification with poetry, and their human struggle that cuts through the distances of imagination and writing.
It was the first poetry evening for poet Abdullah Majid who was able to record his active presence on the platform with his texts and beautiful performance.
