Sharjah 24: As part of its ongoing Tuesday Forum series, the Poetry House in Sharjah hosted a vibrant poetry evening on Tuesday, 20 May 2025.

The event featured celebrated poets Saeed Al Mansouri, Dr. Maram Al Nissr, and Hassan Jallanbou, and was compered by Dr. Raed Rasheed Al Haj. Poet Mohammed Abdullah Al Buraiki, Director of the Poetry House, was present alongside a diverse and enthusiastic audience of poets, critics, and lovers of poetry who filled the venue, responding to each reading with warm applause and deep engagement.

Opening reflections and tributes

Dr. Raed Rasheed Al Haj opened the evening with a heartfelt tribute to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, expressing profound gratitude for his steadfast support of Arab literature, thought, and authentic creativity.

He also commended the Poetry House for its commitment to nurturing Arabic verse, stating: "In the presence of poetry, we are not mere listeners but travellers through the realms of beauty. We draw deeply from the source of feeling, ascending beyond the thresholds of language into wider spaces. Poetry is not simply ornate language or structured rhyme—it is the mirror of the soul, the voice of the self when ordinary words are not enough. It is a pure moment of truth, where letters meet longing and rhythm meets emotion."

Exploring love, longing, and poetic transformation

The readings began with poet Saeed Al Mansouri, who presented a series of lyrical poems filled with romantic expression, delving into themes of longing, emotional confession, and heartfelt introspection.

He was followed by Dr. Maram Al Nissr, who offered a compelling set of verses exploring love, absence, and emotional tension. Her poetry opened a window into the questions of passion and the sorrows of separation, inviting the audience into the emotional depths of her work.

The evening concluded with poet Hassan Jallanbou, whose powerful readings reflected the journey of the poet’s soul—his internal struggles, life’s transformations, and the evolving vision that shapes a poetic voice.

Honouring creativity and cultural contribution

At the end of the evening, poet Mohammed Al Buraiki honoured the participating poets and the evening’s presenter, awarding each of them certificates of appreciation. The event stood as a testament to the Poetry House’s vital role in fostering a rich literary culture in Sharjah and celebrating the enduring power of verse.
