Sharjah24: As part of the 11th edition of the Sharjah Calligraphy Forum, themed "Taraqeem," organised by the Cultural Affairs Department at the Sharjah Department of Culture, several diverse artistic workshops in the fields of calligraphy and ornamentation were held. Among these were workshops conducted at the Sharjah Center for Arabic Calligraphy and Ornamentation, including the workshop "Construction and Composition in Calligraphic Works," supervised by Professor Mohammed Al-Nouri. There was also the workshop "Aesthetics of the Diwani Script," overseen by Professor Mohammed Farouk Al-Haddad, and the workshop "Contemporary Gilding and Its Techniques," supervised by Professor Musab Al-Douri. Participants in these workshops trained in specific techniques related to the Diwani script and the gilding techniques accompanying artistic works, as well as the fundamentals of creating calligraphic pieces.
A series of workshops were also organised in several mosques in Sharjah, including the workshop "How to Write Numbers," supervised by Professor Ayman Ghazal at Al-Noor Mosque in Sharjah, and the workshop "Calligraphic Work on Printed Background," presented at Al-Huda Mosque in Al-Khalidiya under the supervision of Professor Reda Jumaa Mansour. Additionally, there was a workshop titled "How to Repeat Letters and Words in Regular Shapes Using Digital Art" at the University of Sharjah Mosque, supervised by Professor Husam Ahmed, and a workshop on "Writing the Name of God with Diacritical Marks in Thuluth Script" at Al-Huda Mosque in Al-Khalidiya, supervised by Professor Reda Jumaa, along with many other workshops that attracted a large number of calligraphy enthusiasts of various ages, opening opportunities for many talents to refine and pave their way in the art of Arabic calligraphy.
On another note, a number of artistic workshops were directed towards the students of the Sharjah Women's Union as part of the forum’s activities, including the workshop "The Balance of Arabic Numbers," supervised by Professor Mustafa Al-Nashawi. This workshop highlighted the significant importance of numbers in various aspects of calligraphy, as well as the specific rules for writing them. A digital workshop for designing the logo of "Taraqeem" in Thuluth script was also conducted under the supervision of Professor Al-Tayeb Amer, where the basics of starting the logo design were explained, including what the designer or calligrapher should rely on before beginning the design.
Additionally, there was a workshop on "Calligraphic Panel with Different Materials," supervised by Professor Al-Tayeb Amer, who explained the fundamentals of creating a calligraphic panel, preparing the canvas, and the background layers of the panel, as well as making simple sketches for the work concept and preparing the necessary materials for execution. A workshop titled "Calligraphic Panel Using Collage Technique" was also held under the supervision of Professor Al-Tayeb Amer, where the fundamentals of making the panel, preparing the colours and materials, and using the colours were explained. Furthermore, there was a workshop on "Arabic Calligraphy Between Traditional and Digital," supervised by Professor Mustafa Al-Nashawi, which compared traditional Arabic calligraphy with digital Arabic calligraphy using tablets. One of the key points addressed in the workshop was the harmony between authenticity and technology, which enhances the Arab identity and uniqueness with a modern creative touch that aligns with the global developments.
