Sharjah 24: The Arabic Language Educational Centre for Gulf States (ALEGS), in Sharjah concluded its participation in the third third annual international conference organized by the King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language (KSGAAL), in Riyadh, under the theme "Arabic Language Computing and Linguistic Data Enrichment”.
ALEGS was represented by His Excellency Dr. Issa Saleh Al Hammadi, Director of the Centre, during the conference and its conclusion on Tuesday.

The conference topics covered the automated processing of the Arabic language, including machine learning, converting speech into texts, automatic recognition of image texts. It also covered computational linguistics in the service of learning and teaching the Arabic language, such as linguistic corpora, and means of benefiting from them in teaching the Arabic language, in addition to the digital lexicographic industry, modern technologies in computing dictionaries, the latest methods in building linguistic corpora and data sources, and their labeling, preservation, searching, and analysis, and the latest experiences in managing research centres specialised in language computing, and opportunities for developing them.

Over the course of two days, in-depth panel discussions were held, enriched by researchers from Saudi Arabia and various countries around the world.

Panel discussions included topics such as “Linguistic Computing and the Arabic Language: Theories and Visions”, “Linguistic Classification Mechanisms and Analysis of the Classification of Arabic Texts”, “Linguistic Dictionaries and Glossaries”, “Linguistic Computing and Teaching the Arabic Language”, “Linguistic Computing: Standards and Methodologies”, “Linguistic Corpuses and Resources”, “Computer Applications in Text Analysis”, and “Efforts of Authorities in the Field of Linguistic Computing”.

His Excellency Dr. Issa Saleh Al Hammadi explained that ALEGS was keen to respond to the invitation and attend to follow up on the extensive discussions aimed at developing practical programmes that serve its goals, reviewing the current needs of institutions in relation to the Arabic language, their future aspirations, and supporting linguistic work.

Al Hammadi stressed that the conference succeeded in demonstrating the contribution to the integration of the work of computer scientists and linguists in linguistic computing, bridging the knowledge gap, introducing their work and projects, enriching Arabic blogs to improve and develop artificial intelligence models, and supporting scientific movement in the field of automated processing of the Arabic language. He added that linguistic diversity had a significant impact on achieving the annual conference's outcomes and objectives; as researchers from several countries participated representing their competent authorities, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Germany, Australia, the Kingdom of Morocco, the French Republic, the United States of America, the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, the Italian Republic, the People's Republic of China, the State of Qatar, the Republic of Kosovo, the Republic of Ireland, the Republic of India, the Republic of Turkey, the Republic of Indonesia, the Sultanate of Oman, and the United Arab Emirates.
