Sharjah 24: Awatif Al Naqbi, Director of the Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) Khorfakkan branch, confirmed the success of the environmental awareness campaign for visitors to mountains, coinciding with the conclusion of its tenth edition, in removing graffiti from 15 mountain sites, and organising educational activities in 30 schools in the region.

EPAA organised, on Wednesday, the closing ceremony for the tenth edition of the Environmental Awareness Initiative for Visitors to Mountains, at the Cultural Centre in Khorfakkan.

The ceremony was attended by Her Excellency Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairman of EPAA in Sharjah; His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Al Murr, Chairman of the Municipal Council of Khorfakkan; and a number of officials and representatives of government departments and institutions in the Eastern Region.

Awatif Al Naqbi said that the ceremony comes to honour the strategic partners, and to confirm that the initiative has achieved its goals of raising awareness of ways to preserve the environment.

Speaking exclusively to Sharjah 24, Al Naqbi explained that the campaign succeeded over 10 editions in organising field campaigns that completed cleaning and wiping graffiti from 15 mountainous sites in various cities in the region, in addition to organising awareness events and campaigns in more than 30 schools.
Al Naqbi added that the campaign also contributed to raising awareness and knowledge about ways to preserve the environment and protect mountainous areas.

The ceremony included an accompanying environmental exhibition, and a film screening about the initiative’s achievements.

The students of Atika Bint Zaid School also presented an environmental show, and the ceremony concluded with honouring more than 50 partner institutions in the initiative.
