Sharjah 24: Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah, part of the Emirates Health Services (EHS), recently showcased its initiatives to streamline breast cancer diagnosis using artificial intelligence at the Innovation Exhibition 2024, themed “Innovate for Health.” This effort aligns with the corporation’s commitment to enhancing healthcare innovation and reducing bureaucratic hurdles.
Afra Salem, Director of Kuwait Hospital, emphasised the importance of innovative solutions that address real healthcare needs and drive sector development. She noted that boosting performance and encouraging creativity are vital for sustainable progress, especially given rapid advancements in healthcare technology. These initiatives aim to support the UAE’s vision for improved government performance and innovation.
AI in diagnostic imaging
Dr. Amina Al Jasmi, Director of the Radiology Department, highlighted how AI accelerates the analysis of diagnostic imaging, resulting in faster and more accurate diagnoses. The “Diagnostic Mammography Using Artificial Intelligence” service has reduced the diagnosis time to under a day and required only a single visit, significantly enhancing patient outcomes through early detection and lowering treatment costs.
Evaluating surgical performance with AI
Dr. Sarah Al Shaya, Director of Data and Statistics, presented the “AI Model for Evaluating Surgical Performance,” which aligns with the corporation’s goals for quality care and improved healthcare outcomes. This framework includes 14 criteria for assessing surgeons, promoting transparency and better decision-making in surgical practices.
The exhibition also featured innovative ideas from medical staff, including a new emergency case management system and the “With You” initiative, designed to enhance patient communication. The event underscored the critical role of innovation and strategic partnerships in advancing healthcare services in the community.
