According to Khuloud Al Ali, the centre’s director, innovation in services is essential to adapt to the economic, social, and health changes the community faces. Services are designed to simplify life, especially for senior citizens, people with disabilities, and psychiatric patients, who experience these changes first-hand. Over 20 years, the centre’s agenda has evolved, introducing new social, health, psychological, and rehabilitation services. Tailored home-based care is now provided to individuals with disabilities and psychiatric patients.
The centre offers its services to Sharjah residents over 60 years old, delivering care in their homes. These services include the necessary support to develop and maintain their abilities, rehabilitation assistance, and daytime services. Mobile units comprising a general practitioner, nurse, and driver make daily visits, while other units, consisting of a social worker, nurse, and driver, offer a range of health, social, and psychological services tailored to the needs of those they serve.
The centre also offers training and educational programmes for caregivers, ensuring stability in the health of the elderly. These include the "Rahma" home nursing service, special transportation arrangements for bedridden individuals, and the provision of medical supplies for low-income residents. The Asala Clubs, established in 2009, provide daily social, health, and recreational activities for senior citizens, promoting social engagement through vibrant programmes and activities that ensure interaction with the broader community.
To achieve high-quality services that enhance the wellbeing of senior citizens, the centre has launched several initiatives, including the "Self-Care" home care programme, which ensures personal hygiene for the elderly. The "Home Nursing" service offers healthcare and treatment for those unable to visit hospitals, playing a crucial role in maintaining health stability after hospital discharge for senior citizens and people with disabilities.
One of the centre’s innovative social services is "Mishwar," which addresses the transportation needs of senior citizens, ensuring the best practices in care and social empowerment. Another key service is "Private Transport," which arranges medical appointments in coordination with Sharjah Police's Rescue Department. Additionally, the "Ijaba" service provides mobile government services for senior citizens, enabling them to complete essential transactions from their homes, such as renewing health cards, IDs, passports, and updating banking and pension details.
The centre also offers a "Virtual Companion" service for elderly individuals living alone, where a large screen is installed in their homes for virtual communication. This service allows interaction with a nurse to check on the individual’s general condition. It is available to seniors living alone or with limited social support.
Furthermore, the "Medicine Delivery" service not only brings medication to the doorsteps of senior citizens but also educates them on proper usage, dosage schedules, and storage conditions to ensure their safety.
Physical therapy services are also provided to senior citizens through the centre's specialised physiotherapy department, which caters to both men and women. These services are available at the centre or at home, with a qualified team offering support during both morning and evening shifts.
The centre’s daily home care services extend across the emirate, consisting of a team of social workers, therapists, physiotherapists, and nurses. They serve psychiatric patients, senior citizens, and individuals with disabilities. Additionally, the centre conducts environmental assessments of the living conditions of the elderly, ensuring cleanliness, proper ventilation, and hygiene. Home care units also offer self-care assistance, document processing, medical escorting, three daily meals tailored to health needs, seasonal flu vaccinations, and a wide range of medical supplies, including dressings, feeding tubes, and catheter bags.
