Sharjah24: At the start of the academic year, the Social Education Department in the Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD) initiated the "Welcome to My School" campaign for the second consecutive year.
The campaign is focused on facilitating a safe reopening of schools and kindergartens in its initial phase. Social educators from the department visited numerous private and government schools in Sharjah on Wednesday to interact with young students. The visits had been prearranged and coordinated with the schools in advance.

Mariam Al Qaseer, Director of the Social Education Department, has introduced a campaign aimed at helping families better prepare their children for their first day of school. Many children experience difficulties in transitioning to the school environment, leading to emotional distress and a reluctance to attend school. The "Welcome to My School" campaign directly targets students at their desks, educating them about the benefits of attending school and organizing interactive programs that blend entertainment and educational content. The initiative focuses on teaching important skills such as safety and hygiene procedures, hand-washing, bus etiquette, and social interactions with peers to ensure a smoother transition into the school environment.

According to Al Qaseer, the school encourages mothers to stay with their children for several hours in the first few days to help the child get comfortable with their new environment, teacher, and peers. This initiative typically lasts from two weeks to a month and aims to help the child adjust to the new setting.

Parents are encouraged to help their children prepare for school by familiarizing them with the process well in advance. This can include activities such as purchasing school supplies, selecting a suitable school bag, and using positive reinforcement to build confidence, such as affirming their abilities and potential.
