Sharjah 24: UAE clubs and team players secured top positions in the Sharjah Jiu-Jitsu Cup, which began today, Friday. The event, organised by the Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club and sponsored by the Sharjah Sports Council, is overseen by the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and hosted by Al Hamriyah Sports and Cultural Club. Around 500 players from 49 teams representing 52 countries are participating.
On the tournament's first day, competitions for the 4-12 age group showcased strong technical skills. The event was attended by Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club; Deputy Chairman Ahmed Saeed Al Jarwan; Humaid Hassan Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Al Hamriyah Sports and Cultural Club, along with members of both clubs' boards and several sports and community leaders.
The competitions will continue tomorrow, Saturday, leading to the crowning of the first-place winner.
Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Owais expressed his deep appreciation for the unwavering support of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, along with the patronage of the Sharjah Sports Council. He emphasised that their support has been instrumental in advancing self-defence sports in the Emirate of Sharjah, particularly Jiu-Jitsu. He also extended his gratitude to the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation for its comprehensive role in promoting the sport across various age groups.
Al Owais noted that this year's Sharjah Jiu-Jitsu Cup serves as preparation for Sharjah to host the upcoming " Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship." He emphasised that this event provides a valuable opportunity for readiness and highlighted that the strong technical performances from a large number of participants reflect the effectiveness of the technical plans in place.
