Salem Al Hammadi, Director of the Administrative and Logistics Services Department, reported that the SCI processed two million pieces of used clothing and over a quarter of a million pieces of home furniture, electrical appliances, and food items in the first half of this year. The donations undergo a thorough sorting process, with usable materials being selected and stored by Sharjah Charity. Eligible families are then provided with purchase cards containing the value of the items they require, as determined by a specialized committee. This approach is designed to uphold the dignity of the beneficiaries.
The SCI stores food items in appropriate facilities to support the food basket project and provide for the needy. Electrical appliances and household furniture contribute to furnishing the homes of the needy, with a focus on safe and energy-efficient specifications. Donations of clothes, shoes, and personal items are crucial for supporting the clothing project domestically and internationally. Damaged appliances and materials are carefully scheduled for delivery to recycling companies, generating financial rewards to further support the SCI's projects.
Al Hammadi emphasized that this project involves the SCI's investment in utilizing in-kind donations from the public rather than disposing of them in waste containers. This strategic approach preserves the environment and maintains a civilized appearance.
He urged the public and community members to utilize the SCI's convenient donation methods for in-kind materials. These methods include submitting a request through Sharjah Charity’s website and providing details about the materials to be donated and the donor's location. This enables the work teams to efficiently receive the donations. Additionally, they can use the WhatsApp service to request a representative to receive the donation, or visit the SCI's main headquarters or one of its branches in Sharjah. Excessed appliances and other in-kind materials will be used to kickstart the reconstruction of homes for those in need, who rely on the SCI for essential home appliances to ensure a decent standard of living. Al Hammadi expressed gratitude to all who contributed in the past, highlighting that their cooperation and donations brought joy and happiness to numerous deserving families.
