Sharjah24: The Theatrical Association in the UAE has endorsed the establishment of an annual event called "Emirati Theatre Day." This occasion will celebrate the achievements and contributions of Emirati theatre practitioners, honouring their work and creativity. The chosen date holds special significance, being the birthday of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah, who is regarded as instrumental in the development and support of theatre in the Emirates. This date symbolises the birth of theatre in the country, acknowledging the pivotal role played by His Highness in fostering and nurturing the theatrical community, providing a sanctuary for the art form during challenging times.
Henceforth, every July 2nd will serve as a day to express gratitude, appreciation, and commitment to the advancement of Emirati theatre on local, regional, and global platforms.

In light of this, Ismail Abdullah, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Theatrical Association, remarked that the birthday of Sheikh Sultan represents the essence of Emirati Theatre Day, embodying vision, encouragement of creativity, and the elevation of culture. He emphasized the importance of honouring individuals and groups who have contributed significantly to the local theatre scene, as well as acknowledging the achievements of Emirati theatre practitioners in both local and international theatre festivals.
