Sharjah 24: In a special event on Tuesday, April 30, the Friends of Breastfeeding Association of the Health Promotion Department of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah recognised 40 mothers of all nationalities.
In keeping with the Emirate of Sharjah's endeavours to promote a healthy lifestyle and solidify its position as an ideal healthy environment, the ceremony seeks to honour breastfeeding mothers, working breastfeeding women, and mothers who have breastfed their children for two years. It also recognises mothers who faced difficulties and challenges during breastfeeding, as well as breastfeeding mothers who are currently breastfeeding, for their role in providing children with healthy nutrition and sound care.
Eman Rashid Saif, Director of Health Education at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, attended the ceremony. Engineer Khawla Abdulaziz Al Noman, the Chairperson of the Breastfeeding Friends Association, Asma Mohammed Hassouni, the Director of the Media Office at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, Khadija Yousef Al Ameri, the Head of the Association Programmes Support Department, employees of the association, a number of volunteers, a large crowd of honoured mothers, representatives from the association's sponsoring and supporting bodies, and media representatives all attended the ceremony.
Engineer Khawla Abdulaziz Al Noman confirmed that the event aims to support mothers, help them bear family and societal responsibility, and empower them to build a generation that enjoys health and wellness and contributes to the advancement of society in all fields, in accordance with the wise directives of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, on the need to improve the physical and psychological health of children and mothers by increasing breastfeeding rates, which is the best way to form a healthy family relationship to reach a safe and healthy community whose members enjoy health and wellness.
She complimented the ceremony for highlighting the significance and benefits of breastfeeding, which is one of the best sources of nourishment for newborns and young children, as well as illness prevention.
The honouring event included a presentation of a documentary highlighting mothers' experiences, as well as a lecture from one of the breastfeeding moms about the value of the emotional tie formed between mother and child via breastfeeding.
