Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Department of Islamic Affairs (SDIA) announced the organisation of a series of lessons and lectures in all the Emirate’s mosques on zakat, as one of the pillars of Islam, highlighting its virtues and purposes, and the effects of doing so in achieving solidarity and interdependence among members of society.
The lessons also dealt with the virtue of Zakat Al Fitr, its purpose, amount and time, and warning against negligence in paying it, as part of the department’s Ramadan programme, which is full of many various awareness-raising activities, and events that contribute to raising religious awareness among groups and segments of society in its various communities.
The department also announced the organisation of 29,300 lessons and lectures in the first three weeks of Ramadan in the Emirate’s mosques, 65 lectures in government institutions, departments and bodies, and 42 virtual lessons and lectures via social media. The department’s Fatwa Centre also received more than 2,500 fatwas and legal inquiries from the public, via toll free number 8001441.
The department confirmed the allocation of more than 110 mosques for non-Arab communities, where these lessons and thoughts are organised during the holy month, in English, Urdu, Malaybari, Pashto and Tamil. This is based on its great mission to promote and provide all segments of society with knowledge and religious education, especially during the holy month.
