Sharjah 24: Health Promotion Department of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs (SCFA) held a workshop for evaluators of the Health Promoting Schools Programme, presented by the Department under the generous patronage of the wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Muhammad Al Qasimi Chairwoman of SCFA, and approved by the World Health Organisation, and other organisations specialising in the health of children and adolescents.
The workshop, presented by Dr. Samar Al Feki from the World Health Organisation, examined evaluation mechanism for the eight criteria that make up the programme, which consist of school policies, leadership and governance, school and community partnerships, activities supporting the school curriculum, emotional school environment, physical school environment, in addition to the health services provided at the school.

It was also discussed to present a number of methods that help evaluators in evaluation and follow-up, in addition to presenting some examples from the experiences of participating countries, noting that the workshop was attended by a number of partners and supporters of the programme, namely, Sharjah Municipality, Ministry of Health, Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA), Emirates Health Services Corporation, Sharjah Police General Commanf (SPGC), Prevention and Safety Authority and Emirates Education Foundation.

Her Excellency Iman Rashid Saif confirmed that the “Health Promoting Schools” programme is one of the most important initiatives of HPD, through which the department aima to provide an environment that enhances the health of children and adolescents, and to enable them to develop healthy behaviours preparing them for all stages of life, as they are the basis of the development process and advancement of the society. She added that it will contribute to improving health in the Emirate of Sharjah, which is a translation of the wise visions of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and His Highness’s wife, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Muhammad Al Qasimi, Chairwoman of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, and their Highness’s directives on the necessity of preparing Schools provide a healthy and ideal environment for their students, and work to take care of the health of children and adolescents whereas investing in children is an investment in a bright future.
