Sharjah24: A delegation comprising members of the Central Region Student Parents Council, under the auspices of the Suburbs Affairs Department, paid a visit to a wheat farm in Mleiha, where they extended congratulations on the inauguration of the farm's administrative facility.
The delegation conducted a thorough tour of the premises, underscoring the significance of this expansion in bolstering food resources in alignment with agricultural sustainability standards.
Among the delegation were Rashid Abdullah Al Mahyan, Chairman of the Council; Dr. Ali Salem Al Tunaiji, serving as the secretary; Muheir Al Khayyal, heading the educational and cultural committee; Suhail Salem Al Kaabi, overseeing the finance committee; and Mohammed Sultan Al Khasouni, leading the activities and events committee. They were cordially received by Mohammed Obaid bin Mattar Al Tunaiji, the branch director of the Municipalities and Agriculture Affairs Department, accompanied by department personnel from the Central Region.
The Central Region Student Parents Council familiarised themselves closely with the diverse operations at the farm, including its integration with biotechnology laboratories focused on wheat variety development. Throughout the visit, they gained insights into Sharjah's innovative approaches and strategies in wheat cultivation, a pivotal endeavor towards ensuring food security and self-sustainability.
The council underscored the necessity of strengthening community engagement and raising awareness about the importance of agriculture and afforestation, instilling agricultural values in the younger generation, including students, and fostering environmental responsibility and agricultural heritage preservation.
Concluding the visit, the council Chairman and members commended the ongoing endeavors of the department, reflecting the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in advancing and enhancing Sharjah's agricultural initiatives, alongside broader developmental projects across the emirate, particularly in the Central Region. They also extended appreciation to the farm management for their contributions.
They emphasised the pivotal role of this comprehensive project in promoting responsible and sustainable food security, marking a significant stride towards achieving self-sufficiency in agricultural production.
