Sharjah24: Embracing the profound impact of collaborative efforts, American University of Sharjah (AUS) solidified its commitment to enhancing sports facilities and fostering student scholarships by signing Memoranda of Agreement (MOA) with Sharjah Municipality and its subsidiary, Sharjah Driving Institute (SDI), in a recent on-campus signing ceremony.
Under the agreement with Sharjah Municipality, AUS will witness the transformation of its tennis court into a cutting-edge facility, boasting up to four padel courts, reflecting AUS' vision to provide modern sports amenities that promote student wellness and engagement.
In another collaborative endeavor, AUS and Sharjah Driving Institute have signed an MOA that will support the academic journey of two full-time undergraduate students at AUS for four years, starting from the Fall 2024 semester. The Sharjah Driving Institute's donation will be directed towards an operational fund, designed to support academically qualified students demonstrating financial need and/or exceptional academic performance. This fund is intended to empower deserving students to pursue their education at AUS through supporting their tuition and lab fees.
"Through these strategic partnerships we are not just enhancing sports facilities and offering scholarships, we are building bridges to a brighter future. These collaborations underscore AUS' commitment to excellence, innovation, and community engagement, empowering our students to thrive in an ever-evolving world," said Dr. Tod Laursen, Chancellor of AUS.
Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji, Director General of Sharjah City Municipality and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sharjah Driving Institute, reaffirmed the municipality's commitment to fostering cooperation and collaborative efforts with various stakeholders while providing essential support to fortify the academic and educational landscape across the emirate. “The municipality is dedicated to enhancing cooperation and joint coordination with diverse entities, ensuring the provision of quality service facilities that mirror Sharjah's remarkable growth and development," stated Al Tunaiji.
Having met with AUS President Her Excellency Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi last week, Al Tunaiji highlighted the pivotal role of universities as esteemed centers of both scientific advancement and cultural enrichment. He further emphasized the municipality's recent endeavor in establishing a sports facility at American University of Sharjah, underscoring its dedication to promoting sports and prioritizing student health. This latest initiative aligns with the municipality’s goals and strategies aimed at bolstering public health and reinforcing Sharjah’s position as a vibrant and healthy city.
In elucidating the support provided by Sharjah Driving Institute, Al Tunaiji underscored its strategic focus on bolstering the education system and nurturing the human element, recognized as a cornerstone in development and prosperity. The Institute remains committed to extending support to students in need and exceptional academic achievers, facilitating their educational journey.
