Mohammed bin Humaid Al Qasimi honours LECGS competition winners

Sharjah 24: Sheikh Mohammed bin Humaid Al Qasimi, Member of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Sharjah and Head of the Department of Statistics and Community Development, attended, on Monday, the closing ceremony of the poetry, story and novel competition for the Gulf States in its first edition, which was held at the The Arabic Language Educational Centre for Gulf States (ALECGS) in Sharjah, in the University City of Sharjah.
The ceremony began with the national anthem of the United Arab Emirates, followed by the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, after which Dr. Issa Saleh Al Hammadi, Director of ALECGS, delivered a welcome speech in which he expressed his happiness with the keenness of the member states of the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS) to participate in the competition. Poetry, stories and novels, which Sharjah is hosting in its first edition, reveal promising and distinguished talents in the literary fields of the Arabic language.

Al Hammadi pointed out that the competition comes within ALECGS programmes to emphasise the importance of moving towards serving the Arabic language and revealing the talented and creative people.

Al Hammadi discussed the details of the competition in its first session, noting that a number of member states reached 5 participating Gulf countries, with a total of 14 students, and winners including 6 gold medals, 6 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals. 

Al Hammadi congratulated all the winners and participants in the competition in its first edition. 

Dr. Issa Saleh Al Hammadi also extended his sincere thanks and appreciation, and great gratitude, to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, for giving the Arabic language his utmost attention.

Al Hammadi concluded his speech by thanking and appreciating the ministries of education and heads of delegations from the Gulf countries for their participation and efforts in preparing and training students to raise the spirit of competition, which had an impact on the level of students’ performance in the competition.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Humaid Al Qasimi and the attendees watched a video covering ALECGS achievements. The material also reviewed coverage of the arrival of delegations participating in the first edition of the competitions that launched on the third of March and their efforts that they worked on until the closing day.

Professor Manal Qazzan pointed out that ALECGS was keen to establish purposeful reading and literary writing in young people and make it a culture, behaviour and way of life. She added that this literary event encourages students to read and write, as it is the light that illuminates the way.

Qazzan extended her appreciation, respect and admiration to the capital of Arab and Islamic culture, Sharjah, whereas, in this event, everybody stands before an exceptional human political, intellectual and literary stature, the owner of unique thought and different cultural inspiration who is the owner of past determination and bright achievements, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, who ensured that the Arabic language is a beacon that guides those walking on the paths of excellence. One of the fruits of His Highness’s efforts in this field was this educational centre that embraces the Arabic language and seeks to empower it. 

Students presented a speech about their  happiness with this participation and enriching their literary talents in the areas of the competition with a visual presentation highlighting their pleasure and passion for this participation, in addition to another visual presentation of a poem.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Humaid Al Qasimi and Dr. Issa Saleh Al Hammadi ascended to the podium to begin the honouring ceremony.

The Scientific Committee was initially honoured, namely Professor Dr. Muhammad Hassan Al Morsi, member of the Arabic Language Academy in Cairo, and Dr. Muhammad Safi Al Mustaghanemi Secretary General of the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah, and the shield was received on his behalf by Majid Al Houli, Director of Public Relations at the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah. Professor Dr. Farid Abdel Al Zahir Saeed, former Dean of the Faculty of Al Alsun and Dar Al Ulum at Aswan University, was then honoured by the ministries of education in the member states of ABEGS.

Participants in the Gulf Countries Poetry, Story and Novel Competition in its first edition were honoured and won gold, silver and bronze medals in the three fields of poetry, story and novel.
