Sharjah24: The inaugural edition of the poetry, story, and novel competition for the Gulf countries has commenced with its initial meetings held in Sharjah yesterday. The organising committees, in collaboration with the leaders and members of participating delegations from member states: Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates, convened for the event.
The Educational Center for Gulf Arabic Language in Sharjah (ALECGS) warmly received the delegations from member states at the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS). The delegations were received at the airports of each country, and each included three students specialising in poetry, story, and novel categories, accompanied by delegations from the Ministries of Education in the participating countries. The competition is taking place under the sponsorship of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

The participating students were selected through nominations from each country based on the competition's procedures, involving internal competitions.

At ALECGS, a thorough review of the detailed programme for the first edition of the poetry, story, and novel competition for the Gulf countries in March 2024 was conducted. Dr. Issa Saleh Al Hamadi, the Director of ALECGS, extended a warm welcome to the participating delegations from member states ABEGS for the first edition of the poetry, story, and novel competition in March 2024.

He emphasised the significance of fostering a competitive spirit among participating students, motivating them, and directed the supervisory and organising committees to provide adequate care, support, and sponsorship for all participants. He also underscored the importance of promoting cultural exchange among member states, discovering talented students in the poetry, story, and novel fields, and encouraging a spirit of competition and excellence among these students.

Additionally, a high committee was established, led by the director of ALECGS, along with members of the scientific committee, heads of participating delegations, and supervisors from ALECGS.

Al-Hamadi along with the heads and members of the participating delegations, conducted an inspection and informative tour of the centre and its facilities. Initially, they were presented with a visual overview introducing the centre, its programmes, and the achievements in studies, research, conferences, seminars, training courses, and related statistics.

Subsequently, they visited the centre's library, which contains resources covering various studies and research conducted by the centre in teaching and learning Arabic.

The tour included an introduction to the centre's training rooms, the theatre, and the permanent Arabic language exhibition at the centre. The delegation learned about prominent Arabic language scholars, important publications, as well as notable poets, writers, and literary figures, including the Seven Golden Odes, along with brief insights into their lives and contributions.
