Sharjah celebrates four Egyptian innovators in Cairo

Sharjah 24: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, The Egyptian capital, Cairo, celebrated the sixteenth edition of the Sharjah Cultural Awards Forum, which celebrated 4 Egyptian writers, namely, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hassan Abdullah, writer Prof. Dr. Hussein Hamouda, writer and translator Sahar Al Tawfiq, and the critic and novelist Sayed Al Wakil.
The forum comes in implementation of the directives of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, to honour literary figures who have contributed to serving contemporary Arab culture, and it is held for the fifth time in Egypt.

Her Excellency Dr. Nevin Al Kilani, Egyptian Minister of Culture, President of the Supreme Council of Culture, appreciated the efforts of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, in supporting culture in all Arab countries, noting that Egypt has received wide cultural attention from Sharjah over many years.

This came during a meeting between Al Kilani and His Excellency Abdullah bin Muhammad Al Owais, Head of the Sharjah Department of Culture; and Muhammad Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs, prior to the start of the honouring ceremony.

Al Kilani expressed her happiness at Sharjah Cultural Awards Forum as it is a recognition of Egyptian creativity and innovators who have served the Arab culture with remarkable creative production over the years. 

Al Kilani pointed out that Sharjah has a prominent cultural presence in the Egyptian cultural arena, and a special value among Egyptian writers.

Abdullah Al Owais praised the efforts of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture in making Sharjah cultural events in Egypt a success, stressing that deepening Arab brotherhood is at the forefront of the endeavours of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah through more fruitful cultural work.

The honouring ceremony was held at the Supreme Council of Culture in the presence of His Excellency Abdullah bin Muhammad Al Owais, His Excellency Dr. Nevin Al Kilani, Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Dr. Hisham Azmy, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Culture, His Excellency Counselor Saleh Al Saadi, representative of the UAE Embassy in Egypt, and a large crowd from the Egyptian and Arab cultural, creative, literary and academic elites, and the families of the four honourees.

His Excellency Abdullah Al Owais pointed out that the existing cultural cooperation between the Egyptian Ministry of Culture and the Sharjah Department of Culture represents a model of creative cooperation, and said: “Here we are today together representing a model of coopertaion through Sharjah Cultural Awards Forum, which aims to honour Arab cultural figures who enriched the contemporary cultural arena with creativity in the field of literature”.

Al Owais pointed out that the forum in Egypt is held for the fifth time to honour a new constellation, and said that the forum was keen to take Egypt as a starting point for launching its activities, and from there to all Arab countries. 
The head of the Department of Culture conveyed the congratulations of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah to the honourees, and said he has the honour to convey to the honourees the congratulations of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, on this honour, in appreciation of their sincere efforts and contributions. He also conveys to all the honourees His Highness’s greetings and his wishes for success and prosperity.

Al Owais also praised the cooperation of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, saying that on this occasion, he is pleased to extend his sincere thanks and appreciation to Her Excellency Dr. Nevin Al Kilani, Minister of Culture, and to the members of the work team, for their fruitful cooperation in organising this high-level ceremony.

Dr. Hisham Azmy, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Culture gave a speech at the beginning of which he welcomed the audience, and said  that he is honoured to welcome everyone to the Supreme Council of Culture, the Egyptian House of Culture.

Azmi highlighted the objectives of the forum by saying that Sharjah Cultural Awards Forum initiative aims to honour intellectual and cultural figures from all parts of the Arab world, in recognition and appreciation of their contributions and creativity, to advance the culture of their societies and raise the awareness of their people. He added that honouring is a well-deserved appreciation for those who lead the process of thought, creativity and enlightenment in their homelands, it is an incentive and motivation for intellectuals to produce more and continue to supply the Arab cultural arena with their intellectual works in service of their countries, their communities, and the issues of their nation.

The four honourees expressed their happiness with the honour, stressing that the vision of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, is a comprehensive vision for the Arab cultural and creative renaissance, and gives Arab culture a prominent place among human cultures, builds humanity, connects the past with the present, and aspires at the same time to a better future.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Abdullah Al Owais, Muhammad Al Qaseer, Nevin Al Kilani and Hisham Azmi handed over to the four honourees certificates of appreciation signed by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, in honour of their literary and intellectual efforts in the Arab cultural arena.

The honouring ceremony was accompanied by an exhibition that included a number of publications from the Sharjah Department of Culture, including: Sharjah Cultural Magazine, Al Rafid Magazine, Al Qawafi Magazine, and Theatre Magazine, in addition to a number of books whose titles varied between poetry, novels, theatre, criticism, and other creative titles, and the attendees enjoyed purchasing the publications.
