The event lasted two days and drew a large audience and diversified participation from towns around the emirate of Sharjah, as well as numerous governmental and business groups from throughout the country.
Sheikh Khalid bin Essam bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Department; Dr Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Consultative Council; and Asma bin Taliah, Secretary-General of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Sharjah, along with municipal council heads, directors general of municipalities in cities and regions of the emirate, members of the consultative council, and heads and directors of governmental and private departments and institutions.
The event emphasised the efforts of cities and municipal councils in the areas of municipal work and sustainability. It functioned as a significant forum for encouraging and motivating towns to work towards reaching the country's goals for sustainable development. It also highlighted municipalities' smart successes in enhancing the quality of life for the emirate's people and residents.
Dr Sulaiman Bin Sarhan Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Municipal Affairs Department, emphasised that the forum aligns with the visions and interests of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and the aspirations of Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairman of the Executive Council, aiming to preserve the environment and achieve a more sustainable future.
He stated that the municipal councils and municipalities in the emirate of Sharjah are working to adopt best practices and attain the highest standards of municipal operations in order to take a qualitative and supportive step towards global standards and sustainable development initiatives.
He explained that the forum's goal is to explore the best strategic practices in sustainable development, raise community awareness of their importance, and engage students and the general public from municipalities in the city and regions of Sharjah in interactive workshops that will enrich knowledge and contribute to knowledge exchange.
The forum featured three debate sessions with a total of nine talks on sustainable development, urban fabric and planning, urban future, and social responsibility, as well as an exhibition of the most renowned smart municipality initiatives aimed at attaining sustainability.
Al Zaabi stated that the forum serves as a platform for exchanging ideas among various entities involved in municipal work and sustainable development, thereby effectively improving work efficiency and achieving joint cooperation and coordination between Sharjah's municipalities and the relevant authorities.
Sheikh Engineer Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Qasimi, Director of the Building Permits Department, stated that the forum is part of the department's efforts to develop and improve joint municipal work, coordination, and cooperation among various municipal councils and municipalities in the emirate of Sharjah. He also stated that the conference is a vital step towards ensuring a sustainable future for municipal operations.
Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji, the Director General of the Municipality, affirmed that the emirate places great emphasis on sustainability, and the municipality has followed this approach to consolidate its role in providing a healthy environment and achieving a quality of life through the implementation of quality agricultural projects and the expansion of green areas, using smart methods that enhance environmental sustainability, and reflecting joint efforts to address environmental issues.
He stated that the event underlines the emirate's municipalities and municipal councils' commitment to working together to address difficulties and unite efforts to benefit the emirate, society, and the environment.
